School volunteer projects

Looking for ways your students can help support community needs, demonstrate kindness and give back? We create citizenship projects students can do from their classrooms. Students learn how they can make a difference and gain an understanding of community needs.

If your school has a course in food or sewing, we have projects you can do to support animals living in shelters!

  • Baked pet treats (all shapes & sizes welcome, we ask you include the recipe)
  • Chew toys (made from scrap material or socks-we have 4 great ideas your students can do easily!)
  • Sew together pet bandanas or snuffle mats

Family & youth volunteer projects

Youth community groups, seniors’ homes, daycares – everyone can make a difference. We create monthly citizenship projects that groups of any age can do from anywhere. You can make a difference together as a group, gain an understanding of community needs while team building!

  • If your family or group enjoys craft projects, we have projects you can do to support our hippo program!
  • Assemble card kits: we provide you with the supplies to make a DIY greeting card kit
  • Friendship Bracelets: we provide you with the supplies to make a DIY bracelet, one for you & one to give away!
  • Paint pots: We have small clay pots that need painting

Group volunteer projects

Looking for ways your business can support community needs, demonstrate kindness, and give back? We offer groups an opportunity to assemble kits for women & children living in shelters. Your group pays $10 per kit, and we bring all the supplies to you for a fun team building experience putting them together. We then, pick up the assembled kits and deliver them to those in need on your behalf! We have different themes of kits to put together from personal hygiene kits, to play kits to winter care kits!

Thank you!

Our goal is to collect 3,000 items of need.

Furever Yours!

This month we are asking for donations of pet food, brushes, leashes, and toys. You can also bake pet treats, sew bandanas, or make chew toys for our furry friends.

Book kits made by Humanity in Practice volunteers. They contain seasonal treats, a colour-your-own-bookmark, and a pack of crayons.

h!ppo program

h!ppo is a program designed to support children living in shelters or transitional housing, by providing seasonal treats and creative play kits that are considered part of a happy childhood but that are not affordable for these families.

Our kits are a fun and safe way for families to spend quality time together, exercising creative expression and building happy memories. You can help by purchasing a kit for $25. Donate or e-transfer to hip@shaw.ca.
